Black Athlete Dong Watching: A National Socio-Sport-Politic Phenomenon

I was three teams from finishing my NBA All-Star break Power Rankings when I decided to save the draft of my work to that point. Poof! Everything I’d written this morning from 5:45-9:45 was gone. I’m stuck a few completed team overviews with one sentence of a Milwaukee Bucks synopsis, which should tell you about where I left off at 3 a.m. when I went to bed…
So, instead of ranting too much or wailing at walls, I put in a call to one Bomani Jones to talk about the Super Bowl and kick it, in general, when he tells me about his interview with A.J. Daulerio, editor-in-chief at Deadspin.
Now, apparently the latest “adventures in athlete’s dong photos” landed on San Antonio Spurs guard, George Hill. I checked out a set of edited photos and noticed the photos were accompanied by his text messages. This means the woman he sent them to went out of her way to publicize the communiques between she and Hill – well, at least his verbal communing with her. Obviously, the goal is to let everyone know she’s not lying while protecting her identity.
Since, Hill has apologized to the Spurs team and their fans for ———– what. Them searching out athlete dong pictures?
So, I listened to the Jones interview with Daulerio to get some insight into the sports fan’s – male – fascination with Black athlete dong…. Black athlete dong, in particular. According to Daulerio, Minnesota Vikings tight end Vishante Shiancoe is also a dong portraitist, along with Grady Sizemore (according to Daulerio he should be named, “Sizelesss”) and Cleveland Browns quarterback, Brady Quinn.
The editor-in-chief of the Internet’s most popular non-mainstream sports website told listeners that athletes routinely send these types of photos to women. In fact he said whoever Quinn’s girlfriend is had better watch out because, I gather, Quinn is a serial dong photo portraitist. Also implied in Daulerio’s talk is that Deadspin receives and has, at some point, released these photos to their readers.
A.J. went to to say that the three highest-rated blog posts in Deadspin’s infamous history are three dong photo portraitist’s collections.
This means Deadspin’s overwhelmingly male – make that White male – readership are taking the Robert Mapplethorpe thing three steps further; into the land of the Peeping Tom, vicarious thrill of perusing Black dick syndrome-itis.
And Daulerio, while he claimed he doesn’t “stare for five minutes, or anything,” was very detailed in his descriptions ———- and he never claimed he has a photographic memory, though from the sound of things it sure seems like he has a great memory for certain types of photographs. But Daulerio claims he is “just a messenger” and a person who “reports the news” and lets others decide what is and isn’t news.
To be fair, I also noticed that many blogs linked the Hill pics to The Huffington Post, as well as Deadspin.
Is it a coincidence that the most popular sports blog and the most popular liberal political blog are the hubs for these photos?
On one hand, it can be said that because they are popular, they receive the most linked by other websites and blogs. However, the two also most thoroughly exhibit the photos.
Now, Daulerio gave listeners the excuse that most of his readers are “wannabe comedians”, which tells me that Deadspin is, in itself, a joke . That, in fact, the blog is not to be taken seriously, does not disseminate serious sports news or is not meant to do so, and should not ever be regarded as serious. Same goes for the HuffPo.
As fascinating as it is that Black athlete dong photos appear most prominently at these websites, it is also a commentary on the sites’ readers as well as a commentary on how the mainstream media twists reality into Escher-like forms in order to take the focus away from mostly serious and well-meaning websites like SOMM and the many sites and blogs listed in the SOMM Blogroll. The goal of mainstream media, then, is to trivialize websites that produce thoughtful commentary and journalistic prose and laud those that produce meaningless blather while proliferating pap across the Interwebs. What is up is also down, sideways too if you listen to sports news and news “authorities” enough.
And, like good little mind-controlled subjects, readers eschew thought and anything that might resemble meaningful discussion, and flock to those websites in droves.
ESCAPE is the rule of the day, folks, And history tells us that when escape is the rule, we are a deeply-troubled nation. It also tells us that when we chose to turn our backs on the trivial and begin to entertain the serious and that which would move us forward, we a re more interested in personal and inter-personal progression – and we are a much better nation for it.
What’s it gonna be, running from our problems or seeking solutions?
There is what the Chinese would call “Standstill” in one and and what the Maya would call “Itz-ach” or, “Divine Doing” in the other.

Isn’t the phenomenon in question historical? I’m not sure when or where it started, but they’ve been into that sort of thing for a while, especially during the days of the “peculiar institution”. I’m not going to read that Mandingo article again because the time I did read it I had to take a long hot shower to get the grime off. Truly disturbing and this is from someone who’s dabbled in the swing life from time to time. All of this fit right into the constructs and definitions of physical beauty that have persisted to this very day.
3) Sexual and social taboos to intimidate white women from even considering a black man as a mate
4) De-humanization of certain aspects of black people juxtaposed against the proliferation of black domestic workers. (If Thomas Jefferson TRULY thought that blacks were animals, then he doesn’t have sex with Sally Hemings let alone allow her to be a chambermaid or allow a black woman to cook his food or wash his clothes. He felt that blacks were BENEATH whites, but his pecker hit some very nice real estate, and he knew that Sally was a woman just like his wife was.)
