More Tiger Woods & the Media: Which Truth Will Set You Free?

After three commentaries about Tiger Woods, the thought here was that the Woods issue was a done deal. Unfortunately, some sports writers and websites alleged to cover sports are as content with being perceived as media versions of Jaime Grubbs. They search for new “angles” to Woods’ “transgressions” like common sidewalk hookers ho-strolling for late, late night johns.
They write commentaries like Hank Gola of the NY Daily News has, telling us how Woods should be suspended from the PGA Tour. Gola is one of those writers who sucked Woods’ ass once upon a time, adding his special brand of whoring to a pictorial biography of Woods. Gola affixed himself to Woods like a leech does a wet ankle in a slow-flowing river when Tiger announced entry into the upper echelon of the sporting world after his 12-stroke win at Augusta, Gola was proud to take golf fan johns to the hotel to make those dollars for his pimp at the time, Running Press. When Gola’s main pimp, the Daily News elevated him to call girl status by sending him to golf tournaments, Gola adorned his finest ho clothes and stalked Woods like Ali Carter did Idris Elba.
Now, Gola is acting like Woods promised him love but called him to remove his name from his phone number because Elin went looking through Woods’ phone:
While conspicuous silence continues to emanate from Finchem’s Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., headquarters, the time is coming for him to address whether Woods – the face of the PGA Tour – should be suspended for conduct unbecoming a professional.
Suspending Woods is reasonable and it’s right.
As Woods refuses to fully address the scandal, the vacuum is being filled by more tawdry stories every day, especially now that gossip outlets are paying for them. Woods admits only to “transgressions,” which makes it sound as if he could enter a confessional and be absolved after five Hail Marys. By not refuting the endless allegations, however, he makes them all seem irrefutable. Who knows what’s true, where it will lead and when it will finally bottom out?
When it does, Finchem has to call Woods into the principal’s office, give him his fair hearing and, if his actions are as shameful as purported, suspend him.
It’s doubtful it will happen. After all, Woods is the Tour’s cash cow, and if you visit PGATour.com, it’s almost as if nothing has happened in Woods’ life since Thanksgiving.
Boo damn hoo —- ho. There’s no crying in hookin’! Gola was proud to do the hooker stroll in 1997 when a young Tiger Woods had White men thinking that once you’ve had Black you’ll never go back. But today, when the Black man claims he’s Cablanasian and acts more like John Daly than he does a chivalrous Black Richard Gere, Gola realizes this ain’t no movie —– and he ain’t no Pretty Woman.

Then there is USA Today columnist Michael Hiestand. Whether or not his number is in Woods’ cell phone is not yet known, but Hiestand apparently thinks his name is Elin because he wants Woods to perform a very public mea culpa for his “transgressions:”

We all believe we have certain rights. Like the right to see Tiger Woods explain himself in a blockbuster TV interview.
In the court of public opinion, he doesn’t have the right to remain silent.
You tell ‘em Elin. You wear the pants now and Tiger is your —- feline. You can tell that man to do anything you want and get away with it. Hell, you can even tell Tiger with whom he should do his “blockbuster” interview. Right Elin, errrrr Michael? The only questions for Hiestand is, when is his tell-all story coming out and how much is Hiestand now getting in his redone pre-nup with Woods?

Next we turn to the Internets and that bastion of juvenile snark and a sure sign of the devolution of American society ——— Deadspin. The sports version of its National Enquirer rip off parent, Gawker, Deadspin has managed to co-opt the Woods-mistress story to the point where newspapers are using onerous pap about Woods supplied by its bloggers and reporting the blather as fact.
AJ Daulerio, who is absolute in his being bereft of journalistic values, has written an “investigation” into Tiger’s mistresses. Daulerio has the nerve to pronounce:

All this, after writing a he said, he said-first and last-filled piece of the worst type of entertainment rumor-mill dreck this side of the Natty Enq’s Flo-rida offices. All this from a feckless punk who knows so little about sports that he must substitute that ignorance with adolescent one-liners within 200-word palaver about this arrest or that rumored drug use or whatever his pimps in the mainstream tell him is important. That is, when he and his fellow bloggers aren’t stealing story ideas about asshats like Kyle McAlarney from yours truly and reproducing them in watered-down form that reeks of White liberalism at its worst. The mention of Matthew Dowd elucidates the real position of the blog as it relates to understaning the insidious nature of racism in america and how racism is directly manifested in sports. There is a link affixed to Dowd’s name —- and that link takes the reader away from Deadspin to a Via Novo-archived article on Dowd’s relationship to NBA Commissioner David Stern.
In fact, the only mention of Dowd at Deadspin is:

That’s it, seriously. A four-year old, 67-word (with articles) blurb with a patented, toss-away snark line to fill space. Take a peek at the SOMM archives for Matthew Dowd. And no, no one on the the Gawker blog ever wrote one meaningful word about McAlarney’s pot bust and his mother’s racist protestations afterward.

Finally on the Tiger ho-train is TJ Quinn and steady pimpin’ ESPN. Once upon a time Quinn was a leading investigative writer and was part of the performance-enhancing drugs “bust ‘em crew” at the NY Daily News that didn’t give dookie about protecting the government, Major League Baseball, or some preferred superstar baseball layer. Quinn and crew would out anyone to blame for the glut of illegal drugs being shot into butts in clubhouse bathroom stalls in MLB cities across America.
But.
Then the Big Subliminal that is Disney’s cash cow, ESPN, knocked on Quinn’s door. When he answered he was bedazzled by the Big Subliminal’s full-length fur coat, alligator-skinned ‘gators and cheetah-lined fedora. When Quinn looked out into the street he saw a the whip of his dreams, a black Escalade rollin’ on shiny, spinnin’ dubs. The Big Subliminal looked at TJ and in its best Barry White pimp voice said to the wide-eyed writer, “Baby, come in from the cold and let me embrace you. You need a real man to take care of your fine-writin’ ass.” With that, the Big Subliminal spread a fan full of 100 dollar bills and told Quinn, “If you come with me the world is yours.” And the B.S. fanned Quinn’s NYC- summer hot face with the the big money.
And TJ left everything and hopped into the Escalade.
Quinn disappeared for quite some time only to reappear with bruises on his face talking on ESPN in cowed tones, suddenly castigating the usual suspect, Barry Bonds but no one else. Quinn’s appeared on ESPN when he was with the Daily News. Then he was proud and spoke loudly with a sure voice; the sound of a confident man doing good investigative work. But after the Big Subliminal started pimping Quinn, his clothes looked wrinkled, his cheeks were a little hollow, and he spoke as if he had been kidnapped and told what to say for the cameras. Bonds became the focus of Quinn’s ire, while Roger Clemens and the names of other alleged White MLB PED abusers stopped exiting his lips.
Now, this coming Sunday Quinn is going to conduct an exclusive interview with one of Woods’ jilted concubines ——- Jesper Parnevik:

Soon Quinn will appear on milk cartons as a “Missing Writer.” And when he’s finally found he’ll be outside of some athlete’s home praying he can get a quote from some athlete who was rumored by Deadspin to have had been caught by paparazzi in his SUV with Roger Clemens’ once-underaged dalliance shooting him in the ass with designer ‘roids while one of Tiger Woods’ alleged mistresses was eating strawberries and whipped cream of his back, while he was on top of one of John Day’s ex-wives —— while a drunk Tony LaRussa was drunk and asleep at the wheel of the SUV in which the athlete and his concubines were, ummmm, operating at a red light at 3:30 in the morning.
The truth will set you free. Just not the truth any of these people want you to believe is true.

His excuse is that he and his wife introduced Eiln to Tiger. She was the Parnevik’s nanny for some years and they treated her like a little sister.
Now, with all that said, she was a grown woman who made her own choices after meeting and dating Woods; she, like Woods, ultimately made the choices she made. That is what Parnevik needs to understand. He can feel angered that Woods misled him, if it is true that he was dealing with one of the “mistresses” when he met Elin. He can be be angry that he put Elin on to Woods.

Beyond that — there’s no more to say. And there’s certainly no reason for ESPN, after all that initial talk about how they want to report the story responsibly, are sinking to this bullshit – with TJ Quinn sent out to walk the streets for them.

Tiger Woods has gotten his “Nigger Wake-Up Call” as Paul Mooney used to call it. He got beat up by a white (well, European) lady with a golf club and nobody got arrested. As I’ve said on here before, had Elin broken a fingernail doing it, Tiger would have been beaten on the street like a dog.

Some of them treat their moms and sisters and women on the street juuuuust fine. Some men don’t like women. They are just sex objects and that’s all, which, in Tiger’s case may be why all these women do sort of follow a pattern and are all white. That’s why I rarely bash Tiger over having a fear of black women or an irrational dislike. He’s never been AROUND enough black women to know the flippin’ difference. I think that guys like O.J. and Wesley Snipes have their own issues with black women, and that’s pretty sad. O.J.’s daughter is a black woman (by his first wife that he left to marry a white lady), and I’ve always wondered how that made them feel.
I’ll not besmirch the memory of the dead, however, but I will say that, to a degree, if Tiger truly does “look up to” or like hanging out with Jordan and Barkley, those guys aren’t going to advocate that he marry, date or screw black women, period, point blank.

There’s a lot of rationalizing going on here. There are a couple of reasons this story is so huge. 1. Tiger Woods is the richest athlete ever. 2. Tiger Woods plays Golf, a high-brow sport with something of a gentlemanly image. 3. Tiger Woods, with his high-end endorsements, promoted this image both of himself and of golf. 4. It wasn’t just one woman, it was several. 5. There was proof, pictures that could be published.
This is precisely the stuff of tabloid fodder. The reports about Woods have taken him as a mainstream athlete as well as public figure who has fallen far from grace. That shit sells copies. Perhaps you can condemn the the tabloid machine on the whole, but I don’t think excepting the points I made above that this is unique from the shit that goes through the gossip mills.
