NFL Week 11: Patriots Revenge, the Oakland Fly Trap Eats Again, and More…

Jay Cutler contemplates the latest way he found to lose a game for the Chicago Bears.

Jay Cutler contemplates the latest way he found to lose a game for the Chicago Bears.

Oakland (3-7) 20, Cincinnati (7-3) 17. Sunday showed the Bengals immaturity. After jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead, too many Bengals players took the reset of the game off thinking the Raiders would pack it in; some appeared mot to show up at all Sunday. What makes this effort even worse is that Cinci head coach Marvin Lewis warned his team all week that this is would be a dangerous game unless they took Oakland seriously. But like the teams that play on Saturdays, they believe the good press they receive from a big win the week previous. And for that immaturity, Cincinnati is back to square one.

And it takes the Oakland to win by only three when handed four turnovers.

Kansas City (3-7) 27, Pittsburgh (6-4) 24 (OT). Mike Tomlin took the blame for his team’s shoddy play in KC. There will be many shoe prints seen on the backsides of Steelers players from Tuesday to Friday. Matt Cassell (15-30, 248, 2 TDs) isn’t half bad for being a high school QB and Pete Carroll’s personal cheerleader for recently-famous USC QBs.

Indianapolis (10-0) 17 Baltimore (5-5) 15. In the third quarter Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff missed a 30-yard field goal that would have won the game for Baltimore. And in crunch time deep in Colts territory Joe Flacco swallowed hard and gagged when he eyed running back Ray Rice without glancing left. Indy linebacker Gary Brackett followed Flacco’s eyes into the path of Flacco’s pass to Rice, making a game-saving interception. Flacco’s boring down of Rice in that key situation and Brackett’s awareness of this had to be a key head coach and defensive coordinator guru Jim Caldwell had to have passed on to his linebackers and defensive backs during the week.

The one constant of the Colts from Tony Dungy’s years as head coach through to Sunday, and the one thing that separates them from every other team right now is an obsessive, collective understanding of the concept of “attention to detail.”

One matter from the game Sunday, on the play that led to Flacco throwing the game-sealing interception the officials, collectively missed an obvious illegal motion penalty by Ravens left tackle Jared Gaither. A full beat before the snap Gaither began to pull out of his stance. The side judge never flinched; and was never asked about his gaffe after the game. Had the call been made, chances are Flacco does not throw the interception, the Ravenc convert a short field goal attempt and Peyton Manning is forced to drive the Colts into field goal position against an, unlike the Patriots defense last week, not-tired Baltimore defense that, so far in the game, had surrendered only 17 points.

Green Bay (6-4) 30 San Francisco (4-6) 24.  Aaron Rodgers (32-45, 344, 2 TDs) played yet another incredible game. The Packers QB is the most under-appreciated player – at least by the press – in the NFL. Niners head coach Mike Singletary is going to have to open up his offense and allow QB Alex Smith to sling the ball around the yard more. Even if it means missing the playoffs this season because Sunday showed that there are more similarities between Smith and Rodgers than there are differences.

Jacksonville (6-4) 18, Buffalo (3-7) 15. Terrell Owens isn’t as slow as the haters in the press make him out to be as evidenced by his 98-yard catch-and-run with a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass. Too bad the rest of the Bills don’t possess Owens’ talent. The Jaguars squeak out of a victory was a Jack Del Rio special; keep the game close enough to cause heart palpitations, make just enough plays to walk away winners. “The Del Ro’s” teams win just enough for him to keep his J-O-B but never enough to go very far. This season’s version of the Jaguars is no different.

New York Giants (6-4) 34, Atlanta (5-5) 31 OT. Eli had a Peyton-like 25-39, 384, 3 TDs, 1 INT Sunday against the flagging Falcons. After the game Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said during his team’s four-game skid life in and around the Giants facilities had been miserable. Maybe the sun will shine Monday over the NYC skyline.

Meantime, the Atlanta “Matty Ice” Falcons miss injured running back Michael Turner already. Though reserve Jason Snelling (25 carries, 76 yards) filled in admirably for Turner, he lacks the “Burner’s” burst and power. Had Turner been in the lineup he would have gashed the Giants for  somewhere between 125 and 150 yards on the same rushing attempts Snelling had Sunday; the difference between the two is that stark. The Falcons, though, can still right their ship. Of their remaining six games they have three difficult teams left on their schedule and two of those games Philadelphia and New Orleans are at home. Atlanta plays the New York Jets in Week 15, and Rex Ryan’s crew will undoubtedly be fighting for their lives at that point. If they can win two of those games and win out against lesser opponents, Tampa Bay (twice) and Buffalo, they could well be playoff bound.

For New York, defensive back Aaron Ross, a key secondary player for the Giants made his first appearance of the year coming off a severe hamstring injury.

New Orleans (10-0) 38 Tampa Bay (1-9) 7. And this is supposed to be a division rivalry game? It speaks to the world of punitry that a few NFL  ”experts” had the nerve to pick the Bucs to upset the Saints.

Minnesota (9-1) 35, Seattle (3-7) 9. It speaks to my alleged expertise that I thought the Seahawks actually had a chance to be a playoff team this season!

Detroit (2-8) 38 Cleveland (1-9) 37. Two of the three worst teams in the NFL combined for  a 75-point shoot out that wasn’t decided until the final seconds of the game. Brady Quinn solidified his role as the present and future starter of the Cleveland Browns, while Matthew Stafford actually snuck back into the game to commandeer the Lions to their final score. This game was much less about the present and much more about the future.

Dallas (7-3) 7, Washington (3-7) 6. Free Jim Zorn —– of his position of head coach of the Redskins. And free Vinnie Cerrato, too. On Dallas’ side of the ledger, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett just presided over 117 minutes and 19 seconds of play-calling that rendered exactly zero points for Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Something had to give sunday, and, as usual, it was Washington that gave. Field goal kicker Shaun Suisham, was a perfect 12-12 coming into the Dallas game. He left Dallas 14-16 with the distinction of being somewhat of the game’s goat when he missed a 39-yard field goal attempt just before the half and a 50-yard attempt in the fourth quarter, just before the Cowboys embarked on their game-winning drive.

Still, the win cannot mask the fact that something is missing from the Dallas attack. After their Thanksgiving Day game at home against Oakland, Dallas must play at New York, San Diego, and at New Orleans. The Eagles then play at Washington before finishing the regular season as they did last against Philadelphia. Presuming wins over the Raiders and Redskins, Garrett is charged with the chore of finding enough offense to split the four remaining games if the Cowboys are to either win their division or slip into the payoffs as a wild-card team. From the look of things, it’s not going to be easy.

Arizona (7-3) 21, St. Louis (1-9) 13. Arizona’s win, coupled with San Francisco’s loss Sunday gives the Cardinals a nearly-insurmountable three-game lead in the NFC West. And the Rams? It is sad to watch Stephen Jackson waste good years of his running back career with St. Louis.

San Diego (7-3) 32, Denver (6-4) 3. The Broncos are what everyone said they are! Well, not the 3-13 Broncos, but maybe a tail-spinning 8-8 Denver Broncos team. San Diego? They are the best of the AFC West.

New England (7-3) 31, New York Jets (4-6) 13.  Oh no they di’in’t! Oh yes they did. The New England Patriots invited the Jets up to their crib and then ————— took their manhood. The Pats made Mark Sanchez (8-21, 136 1 TD, 4 INTs including a pick-six), aka, “Golden Boy,” just boy. Once big roller Rex Ryan and his hood-talkin’ defense -off to a 3-0 start this season – got rolled by the Hooded Master, Bill Belichick and his no-name crew. And Tom Brady (28-41, 320, 1 TD), Wes Welker (15 catches, 192 yards – Brady threw to him 17 times), and Randy Moss let the entire Jets organization know what it’s like to possess true superstars at a team’s core —– and the damage they can do to the opposition.

The final score wasn’t indicative of the ass-kicking the Jets took Sunday. But what remains to be seen is whether or not there will be a lingering effect from the game that will cast a pall over what, for the Jets, began as a season of promise.

Sunday Night

Philadelphia (6-4) 24 Chicago (4-6) 20. Jay Cutler found another unique way to lose a game, making the Chicago Bears courting of the quarterback look like the worst mistake the league has seen this season. Donovan McNabb fought through yet another game without a rushing attack to keep Andy Reid looking like a better head coach than, perhaps, he is.

Monday Night

Tennessee (3-6) at Houston (5-4). The Vince Young comeback tour lands back in his home state of Texas where is he is primed to remind the Lone Star State faithful what they are missing in H-town and at the same time drag his once 0-6 Tennessee Titans one step closer to the biggest in-season turnaround in NFL history. If the Titans can beat the Texans they then get a beatable Arizona Cardinals team at home. That would set up Tennessee at Indianapolis to get the Titans to even for the season and to stop the Colts’ 21-game regular-season winning streak and dream of an undefeated 2009 campaign.

But first, Houston. Stop Andre Johnson, stop the running game, and Houston is done.

————————————

Oh, and Thursday the dreaded Miami Dolphins, the single-wing-like bane of an NFL that sells strong-jawed quarterbacks, diva wideouts, and tight ends that reflect the racial makeup of America, beat Carolina into dreams of next season, 25-17, in Charlotte. Ricky Williams continues to be the league’s best acting proponent for taking two years off, doing the puff-puff ——- puff, puff get your kush on in lands somewhere between the Himalayas and the Outback (or in both), finding your center through hatha to raja to kundalini yoga, only to come to understand you miss the violent pleasure of slamming your 230-pound body into and through a defensive back on your way to the end zone where, when the crowd of 80,000 erupts, you suddenly realize this deafening noise and the money you make for making that crowd cheer is as big a thrill as any act in the world.

Bill Parcells has always been a renegade in a Jesuit priest sort of way. The wildcat, Ricky-cat, Albacore-cat, or whatever it is must be Parcells’ way of saying thank you and screw you to the league all at once.

For the Panthers, Jake Delhomme looks like a pitcher that can no longer find the strike zone. Only problem is. there are no minor leagues in the NFL for Jake to go to so he can learn a new position and make an HGH and Nandrolone-fed triumphant return to the big team as, say, the best blocking fullback in the NFL.

Panthers have a QB they can’t trust, and two good RB’s…. sounds like the Dolphins. Maybe they should go wildcat too. Why not? Nobody trusts Delhomme (including Delhomme himself).

Couple trap games from some AFC west teams this week. Glad the Chiefs won, of the teams in the AFC west, I’ve just never been able to hate them. Plus they play the Chargers next week, and coming off a win there should be no way SD will over look them. Raiders could go 0-16 for 3 decades, and I wouldn’t stop enjoying it. I am shocked that the Steelers lost to KC though, Steelers for pretty much my whole life, have been good about winning games they’re supposed to win.

Coming out of the draft, I didn’t understand the love for Cutler. He never won in college, and to me that is important as a QB. Now, granted, I never watched him in college, but I have certain beliefs I stick to. I do not recall ever seeing a non-winning QB drafted so high. I don’t recall a non-winner college QB having pro success. Whatever, media seems to protect him more than is warranted as well. I don’t know how he got slated for media protection, but seems they go out of their way to give him the benefit of the doubt. Wonder how much longer this will last before somebody mainstream calls him what he is, Jeff George. I believe he’s already been called out as a George clone somewhere on SOMM, either in a comment or article. I’m not smart enough to make those comparisons (though, I’ve always maintained Reggie Bush is an Eric Metcalf clone).

Caldwell has done good in Indy, but he isn’t going to get much credit for the success. Much as I hate to admit it, that team is put together well from management on down. It is what keeps the Pats and Indy on top. Management, coaches and QB are all the best in the league. And this is the difference between good owners and bad owners (Snyder). Dungy steps down as coach, and the organization as a whole is strong enough, and set up well enough, that a new coach can step in without a hitch. Dungy obviously mentored Caldwell, and I’m not saying Caldwell is a bad coach, just saying the strength of the organization as a whole makes his job easier as the new coach.

I hate Hasselback and the Seahawks, second year I’ve been stuck with his ass as my QB and he continually lets me down. Next year I’m not screwing around and I’m getting a QB early, I’m not getting screwed by Hasselback ever again. Asshole.

whiplash_SMH@Da BoarZ…that makes the 4th game they gave away.

The ‘boys mailed it in since they got Turkey Day to play. CinCin did the same, but got fluked by Oakland. The ‘skins are pretty much finished…

Denver is falling fast. SD’s taking over…

The NFC East is lookin’ tight…

Not sure what the Titans will do at Houston for MNF…

So, basically it looks like this at the moment:
NFC=Minnesota, NO, Dallas, Arizona, GB*, & Philly*
AFC=Indy, NE, CinCin, SD, Pitt*, &Jac*

Those asterisks represent bubbles since they’re actually tied with other teams, but somehow take wildcards due to current W-L records. We shall see!

  3. kos on November 23rd, 2009 8:59 am

Somehow, you knew that the Pats were going to stick it to the Jets. Like D said, the score wasn’t indicative of how bad the Pats kicked the Jets butts. Maybe Buddy’s son has learned some humility, at least until the next time his team gets on a winning streak early.

I was talking to my best friend, a Redskins fan, after the game. He blamed the loss on the kicker. I blamed it on Zorn. The Skins settled for FGs too many times. If one of those field goals is a touchdown, then there are more questions about Tony Romo and Jason Garrett today, instead of Washington fans lamenting a loss.

I caught the end of the Detroit-Cleveland game. Could have been the most entertaining game of the year. Brady Quinn maybe the coach of the future, but looks like the Mangenius might not have much time left. Blowing a 24-3 lead?! Looks like the Browns are trying to find every possible way to lose this year.

    WARNING! – Steelers rant

Mike Tomlin HAS GOT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS! The Chiefs started off the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown. That’s returns for touchdowns (kickoffs, punts, interceptions, fumbles) in 8 straight games against the Steelers, a dubious record that you would never think that a defending Super Bowl Champion would have. Tomlin doesn’t want to use starters because he sees it as a band-aid. However, with this loss, things are a lot murkier in the playoff picture than they were to start off yesterday. If the Steelers want to make a run in the playoffs, Tomlin might have to back off of not using starters on special teams.

Also, Bruce Arians playcalling was atrocious, particularly in OT. A toss sweep on 3rd and 2?! You could see that one getting stuffed a mile away. Charlie Batch may not have played in two years, but I would have trusted him to get a two yard pass completion. The Steelers need to get back to “Steelers” football. Being able to pass is nice, but Ben has too many WTF passes during the course of games (and about half of those end up getting intercepted). 44 passes (42 from Ben, 2 for Batch), is way too much. The running game settles Ben down and provides a balance. Chris Chambers doesn’t catch those two passes at the end of the game and get all of those yards after catch if Polamalu is out there.

man…why u so hard on my Jets, bro’? They do-in’ de bes’ dey can…

LOL, Dwill still talking that NEish and hating on the Jets.

  6. awb on November 23rd, 2009 11:29 am

Cutler won as much as you possibly can at Vanderbilt. Saw him last night-hell of an arm but he made some bad throws and bad decisions. Terrible.

  7. Kevin on November 23rd, 2009 1:16 pm

Dwil, Houston got Mario Williams, I think Vince is incredibly underrated right now — but Mario Williams is the best player out of that draft, easily. He’ll be a Defensive Player of the Year multiple times.

@gmp, John Elway’s Stanford teams were never bowl eligible and he went number 1 overall. He seems to have worked out pretty okay-ish.

  8. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 1:44 pm

Thats true Kevin…………Elway didn’t lead his team to a bowl game in college.

As far as Cutler he just seems as though he is a QB that has been dealt with kid gloves when it comes to his teams and maybe in college. As much as the media has called Vince immature and given Cutler free passes it seems as though that the immature tag belongs to Cutler. Vince in his career has dealt with far worse from college to the pros then Cutler has ever had to deal with.

Now check this out guys…………….I was back home in Chicago 2 weeks ago and fans were calling into the sports talk shows. The hosts on teh radio were killing Cutler because of teh 49ers game.

Well do you know that fans were actually calling in making excuses for Cutler. Saying that the reason he is playing so bad this year is because of his diabetes and that he should be given a break for throwing all those picks. His sugar was low.

I mean really this is what it comes down to we are now making excuses like this?? Don’t get me wrong I have family that have diabetes……….but the fact that fans are pulling out all types of excuses to protect this dude is insane.

I swear these fans and media never stop amazing me with the excuses they give these golden boys. And yet no one questioned his work ethic, intelligence or attitude.

But its the same on the message boards……….its everyones fault but Cutler. But hey the folks in Chicago said the same thing about Rex too.

Yeah Dwil they got the golden boy Sanchez this year. But watch out next year they Jets will make sure he has some more help around him. Remember he is a golden boy…………….So expect maybe Steven Jackson for a 4th round pick and maybe a 1st round TE next year for Sanchez.

  9. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 1:45 pm

Yo D what you think Mcnabb said to Cutler??

  10. Kevin on November 23rd, 2009 1:56 pm

But yeah, its insane how far Cutler has gone on a few good games and how no one wants to hold this guy to any sort of real standard. Its sort of like with Tony Romo just being handed stardom without really earning it.

Its interesting to look at Cutler and McNabb together, one of them a media created non-star and the other the under-appreciated great who was routinely criticized in his own time even as he led a frequently over-performing team to a string of conference championship games despite having one good wideout for a year and a coach who checks out for the last 3 minutes of games.

  11. gmp on November 23rd, 2009 2:18 pm

    kevin-

I don’t quite have a perfect memory, or even a halfway decent one. Forgot about Elway, but I figured there had to be a few. Still, you can still say the numbers have been pretty overwhelming against.

Plus I just don’t like Cutler. Didn’t help that he went to the Broncos or that the media jumped all over Rivers when they had that little spat. Maybe I am blinded by my being a Charger fan, but I just don’t like the fool. Not to mention that the media gets all over my teams QB, comparing him to Ryan Leaf after his second year as a starter (and two trips to the playoffs). And Cutler, who should be compared to Leaf, gets a free pass.

Leaf: physical talent, shitty attitude, losing teams. Sounds like Cutler to me.

  12. awb on November 23rd, 2009 2:46 pm

Wow is Cutler really getting a pass like that in Chi? He’s been terrible. Last night was the first bears game I saw this season and there were at least two sure touchdowns where he overthrew the receiver. And mind you the cat he was throwing to was absolutely blazing.

  13. kos on November 23rd, 2009 2:47 pm

The way the media treats Cutler reminds me of Kyle Boller in Baltimore. At first they were enamored because the guy could supposedly throw 80 yards from his knees. He was inconsistent while he was there, though. He’d have flashes of greatness, and follow it up with flashes of mediocrity. The difference being, because Baltimore had that great defense, and a small window for winning a title, he wasn’t given all the leeway that Cutler has been given.

Oh, and another reason for me to dislike Boller, even more than I dislike Cutler. I just read on Wikipedia that he’s dating Carrie Prejean.

  14. Patrick on November 23rd, 2009 5:13 pm

I am just waiting for Jay Cutler to have a Jeff George/June Jones moment (1995) on the sidelines. The way Cutler plays at times, makes me believe he doesn’t care. When things go wrong, Cutler, just ‘cut and run’. Tony Dungy called it right when Cutler forced his way out of Denver. Dungy is usually positive, but he flat out questioned Cutler’s leadership ability.

Even the NFL Network analyst Jim Mora, Sr. said after one of Cutler’s previous multiple INT games: “When I saw that postgame press conference last night, I thought he looked completely immature,’……… he acted like he didn’t even care.”

  15. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 5:20 pm

Yo Kos that dang Boyler got so many free passes by the media it was sad.

@AWB yeah that Cutler is getting tons of passes back home in the Chi………….Cutler throws a INT blame it on the sugar disease.

Reminds me how folks would make all those excuses for testaverde when he threw INTs. Remember the media saying that Vinny threw picks because he was color blind.

Man oh man…………the passes White QBs get.

@Kevin……………check this out Mcnabb is now getting heat from the fans and the media about talking with Cutler. Now realize that when he spoke with Russell the media and fans said that Mcnabb was only looking out for another black QB.

I swear these fucking fans and the media make me sick.

  16. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 5:23 pm

True Patrick he constantly has acted like that. As far as I know he has always acted like this…………but has always gotten a free ride.

No one has ever called him out. Even now the media is still making excuses for him.

Also Patrick how are the folks in ATL acting about the Falcons and Matt Ryan?

Last, its time to start Nat Davis in SF……its been time.

  17. Patrick on November 23rd, 2009 5:32 pm

Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan: Whose sophomore slump is worse?

Ryan has faced tougher teams this year and face exponentially more defensive pressure and now the Falcons on the verge of missing the playoffs. Last year the Falcons had a much easier schedule with teams such as Detroit, Kansas City and St. Louis . However, 2009 has been a little tougher. Ryan has been a turnover machine to say the least and his unappreciated security blanket Michael Turner might not be able save Ryan in 2009.

As for Flacco, he has benefited in playing the league’s worst team, Cleveland TWICE along with Kansas City. These account for three of Baltimore’s five victories. Flacco has nicer-looking stats, but as the season progresses, his production has started to wane gradually. Ray Lewis had proclaimed after he stuffed Darren Sproles after a win over San Diego that this was the best team he has been on. Weeks later, after two Bengals losses, Lewis and Flacco are on the verge of sitting home in 2009. I have never been a Joe Flacco fan. I had felt Troy Smith should not have lost his job after recovering from an illness in 2008. Troy Smith, to me, has better leadership skills than Flacco. I have always questioned Flacco’s temperament since his college days at Pittsburgh and Dave Wandstedt chose to bench him and he ran to Div II Delaware. I believe Flacco and Cutler are cut from the same cloth.

  18. Patrick on November 23rd, 2009 5:44 pm

    Origin,

Matt Ryan is looking more and more like Kyle Boller than Peyton Manning. The local media are giving Ryan the ‘Cutler treatment’ and still are making excuses for him. This week the Falcons face Tampa (and then a few weeks later in tampa) and the local media see this as a reprieve and TWO EASY WINS that will help secure a playoff berth along with a visit to New York to face the Jets.

Josh Freeman has played better in recent weeks. Tampa’s D got issues and the Saints’ were too much, but Atlanta’s offense isn’t on the same level as the Saints and with Michael Turner doubtful, the Bucs can steal this game.

The AJC is anticipating the eventual Philly-Falcons showdown on Dec. 6 and one of their columnists started trying to compare Ryan and Vick after 26 games…

    http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/2009/11/23/after-26-nfl-starts-how-does-ryan-compare-to-vick/?cxntfid=blogs_mark_bradley_blog

  19. Miranda on November 23rd, 2009 6:49 pm

The AJC is hilarious. I swear they have at least one “Vick” themed sports blog once a week. They really do. Amazing, on a Monday morning after an NFL Sunday, this is what Mark Bradley thinks to write about?? And funny, why he used a pic of Vick instead of the Falcons current QB? Hell, at least a side by side shot of the two of them. LOL….damn, the most popular athlete in Atlanta – plays for the Eagles.

  20. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 7:18 pm

    Miranda says

“damn, the most popular athlete in Atlanta – plays for the Eagles.”

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Matt Ryan Mr. Golden boy who has a shave commercial isn’t the most popular athlete in ATL.

So where are all those fans from the Vick days go……………..oh thats right they went down the street to the Hawks games………….LOL!!!!

The AJC will never go bankrupt as long as they have a Vick article. Speaking of QBs dang on ESPN they make it seem like VY record doesn’t even matter because he doesn’t put up stats like shaub.

  21. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 7:28 pm

The difference between Ryan and Vick their first 2 years is that one won a playoff game in Green Bay and the other probably wont win a playoff game in his first 2 years.

  22. monsoon on November 23rd, 2009 7:50 pm

If the Bills had a competent offensive coordinator, any other coach aside from Jauron, and a quality QB their offense would be great this season. When you have a speedy guy like Lee Evans, a hard nosed guy like Josh Reed and TO on the same team it should be an instant recipe for success. Of course they still found a way to blow the game. Good to see TO put up big numbers for a change and i’m thinking he will pick up as the season goes on.

I thought the Cowboys’ problems on offense were to be solved once TO was gone. I guess dallas did have a TR problem not a TO problem.

  23. Miranda on November 23rd, 2009 7:53 pm

Are we chatting about the game tonight??

Hey Miranda…………..these haters in the media and fans kill me.

I still hear jokers talking about the league figured out Vick his last full season……..ummm isn’t that the year he ran for 1000 yards??

HAHA these haters are a trip.

Hey I thought the option doesn’t work in the NFL…………..someone tell VY and CJ.

  26. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 8:27 pm

Oh and I thought VY couldn’t throw from the pocket too. These bustas in the media………..they were just saying VY was going to be cut in the preseason a few months ago.

Now the brotha has a 3 game winning streak and now they are calling him mature.

Damn I hate the media…………..Jaws bitch ass is silent after VY threw that TD.

  27. monsoon on November 23rd, 2009 8:33 pm

that was such a smooth drive by VY and the titans. Makes you wonder what made them stick with old man collins for so long

  28. Miranda on November 23rd, 2009 9:12 pm

Oh Origin, you noticed that too? Vince is all “mature” now….didn’t he come out with Matt Leinert? Is he “mature” too?

Cutler is a smart-mouthed punk. And his attitude has been tolerated in part because of his talent and in part because he’s not black. That needs to be said. Vince Young is DAMN lucky he’s getting a second chance because Kerry Collins is washed up.

    @ Dwil,
I’m posting on a UVa web-site and these white folks are flat-out HATING on Vince Young. “He’s a shit-talker” or “the commentators always ball-ride a running QB,” etc. I mean, I went to UVa and I like Matt Schaub, but he ain’t no damn Shawn Moore. Schaub isn’t all that special, really, stats or not. Under pressure? He’s VERY ordinary.

  32. Phil Deeze on November 23rd, 2009 10:47 pm

Four starts. Four wins. Vince Young.

Suck it, Titans fans that ride Kerry Collins’ dick like a porn star. Here’s some lube. And you can new-jack swing on my nuts. LOL.

Matt Schaub is over-rated. It would be very intresting to see Vick play in a playoff game before Schaub…..and Vick had been away from the game for nearly three years…

    +++

On a side note, I find it very interesting how VY ‘haters’ Ron Jaworski and Trent Dilfer try to sneak on the bandwagon and justify Fisher’s unprecedented benching from last year..

And I hate hearing Jaworski and others say how watching Kerry Collins helped Vince.. really? Watching Collins stink it up in 2006 and then again in 2009.. Get the hell out here with that crap!

Bud Adams saved VY’s career …

  35. monsoon on November 23rd, 2009 11:35 pm

Somewhere in the second quarter, Jaws and Tirico start praising Fisher for the team he has surrounded VY with and the help he has given him. Yeah sure Fisher helped him by sitting his ass on the bench for a lot long than he should have.

@Patrick – I wonder if Shaub’s numbers would be as inflated without Andre Johnson.

@Miranda – I noticed how they somehow tried to blame Jauron’s firing on TO. The weird thing is that I’ve been reading some Bills forums and many people have actually been quite supportive of TO. I wonder how long that would last once bspn bring him back in their sights.

  36. Origin on November 23rd, 2009 11:39 pm

HAHA yeah Vince watching a turnover prone ex wino helped his career.

ESPN is a joke…………and a racist joke at that.

Yet they never acknowledge that VY actually helps open up the running game for CJ.

22-11 ain’t no miracle. Nor are his 8………4th Qtr come backs. Dude looks like a young Elway with those comebacks. Just like a young Elway after the game you look at his stats and they seem avg……….but it doesn’t tell the whole story.

Oh and Patrick not only did Bud Adams save VY career, but he also saved Fisher’s job.

You guys see that ESPN never acknowledges that Big Pimping Bud Adams made Fisher start young?

And Phil Shaub ain’t shit but a stat stuffer…………….he should have done the 22 months for Vick. Especially after all that money he made off of being Vicks backup. Shaub giving his wife a kiss on ESPN……………shit should have flown to Philly and kissed Vick.

Boy Jaws was sucking off Shaub like Jenna Jameson tonight.

  37. HarveyDent on November 24th, 2009 12:04 am

Good win for VY and the Titans tonight. It’s good to see him just playing pressure free ball and just taking everything as it comes. Great game too.

  38. HarveyDent on November 24th, 2009 12:07 am

Origin, don’t be too quick to say Fisher’s job is saved. I could see Adams firing him still if the Titans fall short of the post-season which is more than likely still despite this winning streak. I’d fire Fisher anyway for being so damned stubborn and sacrificing the season just to prove his point.

    Nah, Fisher ain’t going anywhere.

Once again VY proves what you can do with a mobile QB. Someone please tell me the Titans stats on 3rd down conversions of 7 yards or less.

Someone mentioned John Elway. Like I said before Mike Heimerdinger was Elways OC and McNairs OC. Cat knows what he is doing with mobile QB’s.

I was surprised to hear Jaws actually slurping on VY tonight. I know he made some great throws, but Jaws only puts out for guys who stand in the pocket like a statue.

I think Jon Gruden is insane. I really think he is crazy. Or since he is probably rich, “eccentric”.

Please tell cat’s like Dan Patrick and their ilk to please watch the game before spouting off nonsense like “he only threw for 128 yaaaaards”. They don’t win this game with Collins. And you can’t run the option with any other starting QB in the league. Defenses are going to have a hard time dealing with CJ and VY out of the backfield. And this is classic Titans football: field position and controlling the clock.

    Mario Williams is the truth.

Matt Shaub better thank his lucky stars he is playing with Andre Johnson

Only team they should worry about is Arizona. But I heard Warner is injured.

  42. Patrick on November 24th, 2009 10:28 am

    Origin

After Fisher’s stunt of wearing Peyton Manning’s jersey and saying ‘I want to feel like a winner’ that sealed his fate with Adams.

VY and Fisher can’t co-exist, but once the 86 year-old Adams pulled a power play of his own and demanded Fisher play VY, Fisher is on the outside looking in.

VY doesn’t want to get in a media war of words with the media-savvy Fisher. The media (ESPN, The Tennessean, local radio, etc.) would side with Fisher, but I believe Adams told VY to play well and win and he will push Fisher OUT THE DOOR (at th end of the season) and let the offensive coordinator Mike Hermindinger become the head coach.

The media is trying to get VY to say something negative, but he is concentrating on doing the best he can and is playing for Bud Adams and not for Jeff Fisher.

Let’s face it, Jeff Fisher tried to DESTROY VY’s career and Steve Young on the ESPN Monday night telecast said he thought “his career was over”.

VY has leverage and any new contract negotiations will first begin with either the resignation or firing of Jeff Fisher.

The choice has been made by Adams, that VY is a special player and is the franchise player and look at how VY torture the Texans and make them have a “what if” moment(s).

Peyton Manning didn’t win his first playoff game until 2003 (six years) when Dungy was hired. Jim Mora, Sr. and Peyton didn’t get along very well and ownership got a new coach. Mora., Sr became more of a distraction for Manning and hurt his progress as a player. However, the media loved Manning and helped to turn Mora, Sr. into a caricature or spoof (playoffs?) For VY, the media had a contempt for him and generally believes whatever Fisher says. Manning’s job was never in jeopardy and his football integrity was never ‘questioned’ unlike VY.

Elevating Mike Hermingdinger, gives VY stability and a coach that he trusts. VY has never trusted Jeff Fisher and his motives, and the Norm Chow hiring prior to VY’s arrival was the proverbial red flag…and something the media never really explored.

I don’t forsee Fisher winning any Super Bowls with a new team, and will likely have a career similar to Schotteneimer or a Wade Phillips. A good coach, but flawed.

  43. awb on November 24th, 2009 10:54 am

    Patrick,

You are killing me. Exactly how did Fisher try to destroy VY’s career? I mean, I just spoke to my boy who was at the game where Collins took over and he said VY is lucky to be starting again because he quit. And in the NFL you can beat your wife, rape, and kill someone drunk driving, but if you quit that’s a cardinal sin. So with that knowledge tell me how Fisher was the one who sabotaged VY’s career.

You know what? Nevermind. I got too much work to do to get into that nonsense again.

  44. Patrick on November 24th, 2009 11:44 am

    awb,

Fisher taking VY off the field was poor judgment, just like him putting on a Peyton Manning jersey after his team QUIT in New England, 59-0. There is a reason why Bud Adams came out of the owner’s box at 86 years old and saved VY’ s career and put Jeff Fisher ON NOTICE.

VY didn’t quit in 2008 and that is more of a media fabrication that was given credence by VY hater, the 34 year-old Keith Bullock who implied VY quit in a radio interview, who is trying to get a final contract. Both Fisher and Bullock will be likely to be shown the door before the 2010 season begins.

You say VY is lucky, but actually the Titans are lucky Bud put an end to Jeff Fisher’s ‘nonsense’. However, just like 2006 when the Titans finished 8-8 and one game out from a possible playoff berth, in 2009 Bud Adams may have waited a game or two too long before ending Jeff Fisher’s NONSENSE. The Titans could win out, but might miss the playoffs by one game, just like in 2006.

  45. MODI on November 24th, 2009 5:20 pm

I also feel real bad for Stephen Jackson. He doesn’t desrve this. He can be an MVP candidate on a real team.

Vince doesn’t put up big numbers, but he puts up important ones, and QBs who can run are generally underrated. His yards he gains are more valuable than an RB because they are often for critical first downs. The mere threat of the run in short situations keeps linebackers in limbo, and opens up other possiblilties that may have been closed. He won’t get too many long touchdown passes, but with the game on the line he can grind it out to move the chains. That’s why he wins.

  46. Patrick on November 24th, 2009 8:03 pm

How is Marc Bulger still starting for the Rams? The Rams have been terrible for years and it is a shame Stephen Jackson’s talent is being wasted there.

Mediocre QBs such as Bulger, Hasselback (Seattle) and Trent Edwards rarely gets mentioned in the media that their jobs are in jeopardy …

  47. gmp on November 25th, 2009 6:19 am

Hasselback has to be the most overated QB of the decade. He was never that good, was given a lot of rope… I’ve never seen a late round QB get that much opportunity and excuses. Holmgren stayed patient and stuck with him more to prove a point I think. The media has never really gotten on him, he gets the commercials, and when you look at it at the end of the day… he’s had like 2 good seasons in 8 years? He was protected by Holmgren, the nat’l media, and the fact that nobody cares about the NFC west or Seattle in general.

  48. Big Man on November 25th, 2009 10:42 am

  51. Phil Deeze on November 25th, 2009 3:12 pm

    Origin,
It looks like the sportswriter wasn’t ripping him like some did to Mahmoud Abdul-Raouf (Chris Jackson) when he didn’t conform during the national anthem. My uncle was killed in Viet Nam. Chris wasn’t there I’m pretty sure. I’d say that Roseanne Barr did more to disgrace war vets than Chris or Brandon did.
I hope that the talking heads don’t get hold of this, read too far deeply into it and paint this revelation as the pressure getting to Roy.

  52. Big Man on November 25th, 2009 3:47 pm

    Phil

Don’t be fooled. He ripped him. He basically said Roy was all about himself and not a team leader. But, he couched it in praise of Roy.

I’ve been discussing this all day over at SLAM”s site, but basically this writer doesn’t like that Roy isn’t there for the anthem. But, instead of admitting that’s his real beef, he instead pretends it’s about basketball and Roy being a leader, when there is no proof that Roy is a bad leader. Hell, i just read a feature a while back PRAISING Roy for being the person who bridged the gap between the players and Nate McMillian.

So Canzano had an axe to grind about the anthem, and tried to castigate Roy while also being able to argue that his hands are clean. I mean, Roy’s been doing this for several years. Canzano has covered the team since Sheed was a Blazer. Why write this now?

  53. Origin on November 25th, 2009 3:53 pm

    True Phil.

My point for posting the link was that the writer John Canzano knew about this and wrote an article refering to this in january 2008.

Then he writes another article in November 24, 2009 speaking specifically about Roy not standing for the anthem……….when he wrote about it back in 2008.

So basically in 2008 Roy was heralded as a player not wanting attention and who wanted to stay in the tunnel during the anthem. Only to be basically called an anti american in 2009 who stands in the tunnel during the anthem.

WHAT????…………………..Man this shit makes no sense.

See thats why I can’t stand these fools. They either hold on to information for years waiting till the perfect time to bomb on the athlete when they have fallen out of favor. Or they slightly speak on an issue then wait for years later to elaborate on it and throw the athlete under the bus when they need to do some hit reporting.

Take the writer david climer in Nashville, he has done the same shit with Vince.

In 2 months Vince went from a player who was immature, unable to read defenses, lazy and wouldn’t make the roster…………who didn’t listen to Kerry Collins. To a mature player who listens to Kerry Collins, works hard, can read defenses and studies.

Man the media just makes shit up as they go along. If its a slow day make stuff up……….if its busy harp on the same stuff over and over again.

  54. Origin on November 25th, 2009 3:56 pm

I think what made it even worse was that the performance was terrible. And check out the double standard: Janet Jackson caught hell and Timberlake skated. Adam Lambert sounds just as crazy as Kanye but he gets a pass too.

Yeah, some of these sportswriters kill me. I’m like Origin. I swear to god cats were talking about how VY was iggin’ Collins, but now it’s all about how much he learned from him. Thank god he didn’t teach him what to do on a 3rd and long.

I guess VMA said they had to out do MTV awards with Adam Lambert’s performance. MTV had Kanye and they had Adam Lambert. So I guess next year MTV award show will have Keri Hilson or Ciara strip butt ass naked and shake their ass. Or is Bruno going to run on stage naked and shake his johnson on Eminem’s head…………cause you know they have to top this years VMAs.

Shit now that I think about it maybe MTV had to out do the Teens Choice awards……after miley cyrus…………..pretended to be a young skank and danced on a ice cream cart pole like she was a stripper.

But what do I expect this is a young lady who at what………15 or 16 was allowed to date a 21 year old boy. And was taking half naked pictures with her cell phone.

Man, I am so glad I don’t have daughters. I have much respect for cats like D-Will and KevDog because the process of raising girls seems so much more fraught with peril. Well mabye not in my case where I have to raise two black boys in Los Angeles, but you know what I mean. The sexualization of women seems to be occurring younger and younger.

If they are young they want them to hurry up and grow fast. If they are older they want them to stay youngor if you are too old you are considered worthless. Its like the goal is to have all women between the age of 20 to 29.

  69. monsoon on November 26th, 2009 11:10 pm

I’m kind of scared of having kids in the future with the way the world is. So many ways for a young person to get corrupted, and everywhere you look there is someone trying to tear down what you believe in. I guess we all came out ok so it’s not as bad as i think it will be…

The whole Adam Lambert issue is just another example in the list of many of how black athletes and entertainers have to deal with double standards. Why are we hearing so much “it’s over now let’s just move on… it’s not a big deal”, but with kanye it was all over the news, cable, and the subject of skits in all sorts of comedy shows.

Eli is looking awfully mediocre now. Of course there is no micro-analysis, no round table discussions of how good Eli really is. Now that he is going down, I wonder how long it will be before some commentaries emerge blaming Plax for everything.

btw i know there is tradition involved with the teams that play on thanksgiving, but can we start to mix it up a little? None of the games were interesting today.

  70. gmp on November 27th, 2009 6:35 am

Not to beat this point to death, but Eli is protected by the name. He was drafted #1 on the name, got paid 90 mill off the name and the media protects him because of the name. You’ll have to come up with something good to ever convince me otherwise. I guess you could say he made 90 mil because Plax bailed him out on all those high passes over the middle that he just sort of lofts. Either way, he definitely didn’t make that shit legit.

On the kids subject, I’m glad I have boys. I think what pop culture, society, Disney, whatever you wanna call it, etc… does to little girls is ridiculous. I have nieces, and the clothes they wear, the subject matter they talk/think about is ridiculous. They’re actually younger than my boys. I am hardly an overprotective father (in fact since the ex moved them to cali, I’m barely even a father anymore) but why does it seem girls are so much more eager to grow into teenagers? And it seems, at least in that family, they’re eager for them to grow up. Mine are 10 and 11, and I’m not that old. I know what a pain in the ass teenagers are, I want mine to stop getting older.

  71. HarveyDent on November 27th, 2009 6:39 pm

    GMP

You know the conventional wisdom is that girls mature faster than boys so it’s to be expected about your little nieces. I have a female cousin a year older than me and we were very close until she turned 13 and started trying to wear makeup and talk to boys on the phone. Sure enough the next year she had her son and dropped out of school. Some people, male or female, have to grow up faster than others but I’m of the opinion that you should enjoy your freedom as long as you can because when adulthood with all its responsibilities comes you’re not going to have that freedom again.

I get where most of you are coming from when it comes to Adam Lambert but I like the fact that the kid let everyone know he’s not going to apologize for his performance. Some people might have found it objectionable but not everyone is going to like everything so more power to him I says with being unrepentant about the controversy. If Kanye wants to be an ass or Lambert is a flaming homosexual who tongue kisses another man on national television then more power to both of them but Kanye could have defused everything by giving the mainstream his ass to kiss instead of apologizing all over the place. The amorphous “THEY” respect you more when you stick to your guns like a Madonna, George W., or Lambert instead of acting like a sniveling punk like Janet Jackson, Bill Clinton, or Kanye.

The Giants’ woes really, really, really break my heart as I say this with my tongue firmly in my cheek.

That Cablinasian about to get treated just like any other black man. And boy don’t let him be cheating on his wife. Boy and you know their are a lot of folks in the media who are hot because who his wife is and looks like.

Tiger better give Kobe a call and get some advise.

Oh and Phil……………Tiger is lucky his wifey wasn’t listening to melanie fiona “it kills me” lyrics.

Cause she might have stabbed instead of broke a window…………..LOL!!!

    Eli ain’t shit……………….that is all.

  79. Origin on November 29th, 2009 5:09 pm

Damn the NFL doesn’t protect black QBs for shit…..you see that hit on Campbell to end the game??

Hell last week VY got a leg whip and a helmet to helmet hit on the same play and no flag.

  80. Miranda on November 29th, 2009 5:29 pm

Oh I said when I saw the very first report of Tiger being in an accident and his wife pulling him out the car that I’m certain Tiger has his own satellite now and reporters have been dispatched from every nether region to pull up ALL the dirt (imagined or otherwise) from the time he was 5 years old until now.

Tiger…..this is your wake up call……dont hit the snooze negro….WAKE UP.

The Bucs should have won that darn game!!!!!

  81. Miranda on November 29th, 2009 5:31 pm

Origin….Eli aint shit and we are finding out that there is no discernible difference between Matt Ryan’s back-up and him…except that Redman won’t throw interceptions like Matty Ice will.

  82. monsoon on November 29th, 2009 6:15 pm

damn what a drive by Vince Young to finish off the game! 99 yards with some excellent passes and he didn’t get nervous with the time running out.

  83. awb on November 29th, 2009 6:16 pm

    HOLY SH*T!! VY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  84. Origin on November 29th, 2009 6:17 pm

HAHA I hear you sista Miranda.

I tell you what Eli and Cutler ain’t shit but VY most certainly is.

Let me call ESPN and speak with that hating ass negro Chris Carter who said VY can’t throw.

Fuck the haters…………I hope they choke on their own hate.

And I hope Tiger woke his silly ass up. They don’t give a fuck what you call yourself. They still consider you black………..and are about to treat you just like any other brotha.

  85. Phil Deeze on November 29th, 2009 6:18 pm

And another win for Vince Young. 98 yard drive to win the game with a TD on the final play. Jeff Fisher made a crucial mistake with how he handled this guy.

They are one game under .500 after starting out 0-6.

And as for Tiger Woods, he’s getting a weak-up call, that’s for sure. I hope he didn’t put his hands on his wife. If he did, and it comes out? Wow. That’ll hurt his image pretty badly.

  86. Origin on November 29th, 2009 6:21 pm

    Yeah VY always been clutch.

Hmmmmm so do people still think he can’t throw……..or did Collins teach him that?

You know VY and Collins is like the movie the bilndside. Except Collins is the white lady………….and VY is the poor ghetto boy who needs guidence.

  87. MODI on November 29th, 2009 6:22 pm

That drive was amazing! Texas-USC all over again! Poor Matt Leinart

may the very last Vince doubter be silenced forever…

  88. Origin on November 29th, 2009 6:23 pm

Yeah Phil if that happened……………..man he can say bye bye to nike and buick.

    And Fisher fucked up bad.

  89. Origin on November 29th, 2009 6:25 pm

Modi someone needs to call Leinart…………..I mean Vince is a thorn in that dudes side.

Poor Leinart probably has nightmares of VY.

  90. mactown on November 29th, 2009 6:33 pm

Vince put that Thang on that ass! 99 yards!!! No matter, NBC & ESPN will find a way to make it all about Brett and Peyton.
When did Cris Carter get to be such an Uncle Tom and WTF is wrong with Rodney Harrison? I think hands down Harrison is the biggest hater on tv, white or black. He sounds so bitter.

  91. MODI on November 29th, 2009 6:41 pm

O, definite nightmares for Matt!!! It would be nice if those two meet in the Super Bowl one day. The stage has been set…

Phil, stop minimizing Vince — it was 99 yards!! That’s one up on Elway

  92. awb on November 29th, 2009 6:44 pm

    Nah, Fisher ain’t going anywhere.

Cris Carter said that? What is it with brothers once they start drawing that ESPN paycheck? Whatever issues VY ever had, throwing the ball wans’t one of them. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about passing mechanics can set me straight, but I never saw that as an issue. As a matter of fact he’s got a pretty soft touch on the ball.

The way he is playing now is great to watch because he is using the totality of his talent. But it was cool that he just threw the ball on that last drive just to show punks that he could do that too. AZ actually kept him bottled up pretty good as far as running with the ball. So they got beat in the air. Nice.

I knew this game would be difficult with those receivers but as usual the run defense held and CJ broke one off. Also, Houston, Jacksonville and Miami lost. Hopefully, the Steelers can knock the Ravens off tonight to make it that much easier for the Titans.

Next week it’s on like the Wrath of Khan. I can’t wait.

  93. Origin on November 29th, 2009 6:45 pm

Yeah I would love if those 2 could meet in the superbowl a coulple of times.

It would be like Magic and Bird.

  94. awb on November 29th, 2009 6:46 pm

Yeah, Leinert has one of his best games as a pro and it’s deja vu all over again.

Oh and Rodney Harrison is a defensive back. They are haters by nature.

  95. Origin on November 29th, 2009 7:11 pm

Just to add to your comments on VY’s throwing AWB.

I’m not an expert but I never had an issue with his throwing motion…..because Vince throwing motion is similar to Warner in that he can change his throwing motion on the fly. Vince is able to change the angle of his side arm throw depending on the passing window…..just like warmer.

He also changes the release of the ball………if he needs a quick throw he can do a quick wrist release or quick sidearm throw similar to Marino.

Now I am not saying he is or will be like these QBs just stating that he always had the ability to change the release point of his throw depending on the pass rush and passing window.

I rememeber Madden pointing this out his Rookie year and explaining how even with that delivery his passes would very rarely get batted down.

Also why are people so amazed that Vince won a game with his arm. He did that his rookie year against the Giants and Colts. He also threw for 300 yards against Denver in his second year.

  96. monsoon on November 29th, 2009 7:14 pm

Vince was 13 yards shy of 400 for the day. But didn’t they say he was only good for scrambling out of the pocket?

We get to see Dennis Dixon make his debut for the Steelers. Don’t know much about him, but looks like he’s in tough against one of the best defenses in the league.

  97. awb on November 29th, 2009 7:33 pm

    Hope Mr. Dixon can deliver.

  98. CDF on November 29th, 2009 8:43 pm

What a game by the Titans. I sometimes hate those last second drives, but d@mn!

  99. Phil Deeze on November 29th, 2009 10:39 pm

    @ Mactown,
Say word on “The Blind Side.” It’s basically “The Green Mile” masquerading as “Hoop Dreams.” Any black person that speaks against the movie will be labelled as “bitter,” but I’ll put this to them: when you see a scrawny, poor black kid with a dead father and drug-addled mother, do you stop to pick him up?
I’ve read “The Blind Side,” now Leigh Anne Tuohy’s a VERY VERY nice lady. She is. But there’s thousands of kids in bad situations in Memphis that can’t gain access to the tony private schools that Michael Oher was enabled to attend., and they won’t get dick. Everyone in the book had something get from Mike Oher (college recruiters and coaches) from his time in HS to his time in college—he was finally paid for his efforts when he made it to the Ravens. Let’s just say that the movie takes dramatic license in a key way: Leigh Anne Tuohy was not the driving force behind the Michael Oher experience. It was her husband, a rabid football fan, LSU booster and LSU alum, that set up admission to a private school, which helped get Oher’s grades squared away.

  100. MODI on November 29th, 2009 11:33 pm

didn’t see the movie Phil, but on tonights game, the announcers said that Oher wasn’t really happy with how he was portrayed as a kid and his knowledge of football…

In other Sunday night news, I feel bad for Dixon. Overall he played a decent game and the Steelers had some tough penalties that took away some more key plays, but an INT in OT in your first start has the potential to mess with your mind moving forward… or it has the potential to be a valuable lesson. I hope that it becomes the latter.

  101. Miranda on November 30th, 2009 12:33 am

    VY IS DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  102. Phil Deeze on November 30th, 2009 10:12 am

    @ MODI,
I can understand Oher’s feelings. It’s one thing for people to help without thinking of a reward i.e. themselves feeling better about helping an indigent person like they are a lost puppy or a potential pay day. It’s another thing for the kid to be portrayed like Cuba Gooding’s character in “Radio.” In “Radio”, though, the black community (non-existent, really, in the movie other than S. Epatha Merkeson’s character as Gooding’s mom) wasn’t indicted, some of the white townspeople’s prejudices were put on display.
The unspoken question in “The Blind Side” was how was Mike Oher allowed to bob up and down in the black community and not be truly taken in by a family and cared for. And that’s the uncomfortable part. There’s a lot of kids like Mike Oher out there. None of them, really, have a salient skill that pays dividends, though. And, to his credit, he acknowledges that fact, and I commend him for recognizing it. I’m not upset with the Tuohys at all, but the movie makes it out like Sandra Bullock’s character “found” this kid when it was actually a black guy in the community that had been looking after Oher on and off and he knew the private school on the good side of town where Sean Tuohy was affiliated and brought the kid in. In the book, the guy was a mechanic and was considered a very large man. He brought Oher in to meet the administrators and the kid was a HS freshman and bigger than him. When the Tuohys tried to find clothes to fit Oher, they had contacts with Jon Jansen in the NFL. Jansen was told that the kid wore a XXXXL shirt. Jansen contact the Tuohys and told them that he’d donate clothes, but his were too small. Jansen wears XXXL. Trust me: these people didn’t take in a kid that big with the problems he had ONLY out of kindness. His size and skill were what gave him a chance at something bigger, and Sean Tuohy knew that for a fact, and it was brought out in the book.

  103. awb on November 30th, 2009 11:58 am

    MODI,

Cris Collinsworth said that there was no way to see an interception like that unless he played in more games and I agree. Dixon had a tough assignment-go on the road against the Ravens and for the most part he did pretty well.

From reviews I have read of the movie the Oher character is described as a cipher with barely any personality. I really have no desire to see this, the despair porn of “Precious” or the black characters in the new Disney animated movie where the main character is a frog for 3/4′s of the screen time and they couldn’t have a black man be a prince. Sh*t is wack.

  104. Origin on November 30th, 2009 5:11 pm

Phil I have been looking up info on this Oher dude and you are so right about the family and the movie.

Another thing from the info I read Tony Henderson was taking care of him before the Tuohy family took over. The word is that he was written out the movie also or his name was changed.

AWB I don’t like movies like this…………….this is some poor Negro saved by white folks who want to teach the poor savage how to act civilized shit.

Don’t get me wrong its a true story, but we have enough stories like this in hollywood.

Now a great story would be on how Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic raised 19 Children, 14 of them adopted. He and his wife have raised all of these kids since they were children and sent pretty much each one to college except I believe 3. Two are in the military and one is still in high school.

Now thats a story Modi and AWB…..none of these kids were going to be football players or soccer players I assure you.

    http://cherylsbooknook.blogspot.com/2009/08/basketball-president-pat-williams-of.html

See this is why I hate Hollywood.

Oh and AWB don’t let me get on that Precious movie. Why is it that every black movie that represents so called black pathology is always heralded as a great movie. And gets great rating from white movie reviewers.

Plus the director has issues himself.

Anyway I like you could give a damn about Disney. I called that mess out last year and keep informing black folks about that Frog Princess movie. That mess was garbage from the start. The movie originally was going to have the black Princess be a maid on a plantation during the late 1800s. Once black folks complained they changed it.

Then they topped it off and said that the reason that her prince wouldn’t be black is because it wouldn’t be realistic.

    Man fuck Disney.

  105. Phil Deeze on November 30th, 2009 7:41 pm

    @ MODI and awb,
Just once, it would be nice for a black girl to be in a movie where she’s the princess. But Disney wants to make sure there can’t be a black prince for her to find. Typical.
As for Michael Oher, I hope that he continues to set the record straight as far as his portrayal in the movie. And good for you, Mike Oher. You’re a person. Not an animal. Not a circus attraction. Insist on making that point patently clear.
I respect the Tuohys for what they did for the young man, but let’s be real here, OK? Just for a moment. And I’m going to ask a question the Tuhoys or their syncophants might not like: if Sean had found a kid on the streets of the bad side of Memphis, would they have taken him in? I don’t think so. You know why? Because, even with Sean Tuohy’s modest upbringing, they don’t even GO to that side of Memphis. Wealthy white folks won’t be caught dead there, and every person (black and white) from Memphis that I know will attest to that. The only reason they found out about this kid was because he was brought to their attention. And he had salient potential that could be traded on.
At least in the movie “Radio,” you could see Radio wheeling his cart up and down the streets of the town and everyone knew who he was.

  106. Origin on November 30th, 2009 8:33 pm

    Agreed on every point Phil.

The thing is from reading boards and stuff it seems that Michael Oher truely isn’t pleased and it still trips me out about them omitting Tony Henderson from the movie.

So who gave the go ahead to write the book and Movie??? Oher or the Tuohy’s…….I say the latter.

Anyway I would rather see a film on Pat Williams and his 14 adopted kids.
