The 2 Guys and a Mic Interview: Definitely Worth a Listen
July 9, 2009 by dwil
It was a raucous evening with JD and Geno. Not long into the show, the HCIC (Head Chick In Charge) from Leave the Man Alone stopped by from her spot in the ATL to join the fray. We discussed Steve McNair’s murder, Sahel Kazemi’s suicide, the responsibilities of fathers to their sons and daughters, and McNair’s part in his own death.
We then switched gears to deal with Jason Whitlock and his two most recent commentaries on McNair and Serena Williams. And Whitlock came out of that conversation worse for wear.
Next up was talk about the John Hirschbeck incident with Manny Ramirez and the press’ role in letting Hirschbeck off the hook while blaming Ramirez for the incident.
Finally we dealt on the recent foibles of Detroit Pistons general manager, Joe Dumars. Why did he even talk with Avery Johnson when the Pistons were looking to pay a head coach no more than $1 million a season; when Johnson is getting paid by Mark Cuban for the next two years and getting paid by ESPN; when Johnson wanted to make personnel decisions? Why did Dumars consider Doug Collins, who is on the TNT roster? What was the point of Dumars basically scourging the Big Subliminal and other television stations for the head coaches the pay when Paul Silas and Sam Mitchell were obvious choices to coach a young team like Detroit? And since Dumars was all over Bristol, Connecticut, why didn’t he talk to Jeff Van Gundy while he was at it (maybe he did!)?
Why did Dumars, who publicly stated that he wanted to hire a head coach with prior NBA head coaching experience, then turn around and hire John Kuester? Hell, Dumars could have hit up ESPN again and tapped Mark Jackson for the head coaching job if he wanted someone fresh off the block.
The conversation was lively and, I feel, well worth the listen.

in defense of Dumars -
Kuester had coached under Larry Brown for years, and LB is the last coach to have any success in Detroit.
in correction though – Doug Collins is under contract with Turner (TNT), not ESPN.
Great show, dwil. The atomosphere is great for honest talk.

Thanks for the correction.
Dwil,
I listened to the actual program (as it aired). It was very good, as well as very insightful. I especially liked your tennis analysis.
Good to see you are out there reaching out to more people. I’ll try to catch this next time if you do it again.
thanks people….
on the real, that’s part of why I’m doing this “money bomb.” I really want to do my own show w/ guests but there is equipment i need to get to pull it off… hopefully I’ll be able…..
I found this to be a very humorous treatment of Whitlock’s mouth-spewings on McNair.

The column had some good points and hit had some horrible ones. The one you linked to I mean.
No doubt. Linked it for laughs. I’m not familiar with that blog or writer, but I wouldn’t rely on a blog called “Beers with Boggs” for anything substantial lol.
