Short Note: Williams Ousted at French Open
May 29, 2009 by dwil
Venus Williams was unceremoniously bounced from the French Open today by Agnes Szavay 6-0, 6-4:
The third-seeded Williams, who reached the 2002 final at Roland Garros, lost to No. 29 Agnes Szavay of Hungary 6-0, 6-4.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion was playing for the third straight day. She lost the first set of her second-round match against Lucie Safarova on Wednesday before play was suspended because of darkness. Williams saved a match point before beating Safarova on Thursday.
She was also stretched to three sets in the first round.
Presently the Williams sisters trail Szavay and her partner Gisela Dulko in doubles action, 6-2, 1-1.

They whupped them in the end winning their doubles match.
The scheduling for V and Serena at the slams is sometimes suspect to me. Venus was dead tired today — even though she denied it in her presser. Yeah, V. Okay. I love you but…you played five matches in a row with not one day’s rest in between — because of the weather. Yesterday, Ivanovic’s coach sited Venus as the toughest player in terms of focusing on the court. But she was burned…
Come on Serena!!
