RNC: The Backlash Will Not Be Televised!
September 4, 2008
We have all seen “the show” this week, and even Rihanna was almost fooled again. But that is only because “the backlash” — coming from all corners — is not being televised by your local “liberal elite news media”. Many of these links have been borrowed liberally via Jack and Jill Politics who have been on absolute fire this week in calling out bullshit. God bless them and the United States of America:
1) JJP to Obama: “FIGHT BACK!“: JJP’s Christian Progressive Liberal is in no mood to be swift-boated and this “Open Letter to Obama and Biden” had me amening with attitude. CPL says: “FIGHT BACK. Two words, but, oh, so powerful. For me, I need to see fire in your bellies; you demonstrated it during the DNC convention, but why the caution now?… The time for playing nice is OVER, gentlemen. The GOP plays to WIN, and so SHOULD YOU. Take off those gloves, get in the ring and start fighting”.
Raving Black Lunatic agrees for all the same political reasons, but also adds an introspective personal dimension: “I’ll admit it, I probably want Obama to hit back because too often in this world people who look like Obama aren’t in a position to strike back. We have to swallow stuff, accept things, bite our tongues. I guess a part of me envies the platform Obama has, and wishes he would use that platform to say the things to Americans that I’ve always wanted to say.”
2) Gloria Steinem - “Palin Shares Nothing But a Chromosome with Hillary”: “Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh, is no way to attract most women, including die-hard Clinton supporters. Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. Her down-home, divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton’s candidacy stood for — and that Barack Obama’s still does. To vote in protest for McCain/Palin would be like saying, “Somebody stole my shoes, so I’ll amputate my legs.”
3) Jesus was a Community Organizer: As I mentioned yesterday, Palin’s and Guliani’s mocking attacks were the insulting low of the evening. The Field breaks down why this is the height of ignorance and arrogance. Now community organizers are already fighting back (h/t Shon). BTW, directing Project Vote, Obama was able to register 150,000 new voters. Sarah Palin became Wasilla mayor in 1996 by winning with 616 votes.
4) Black Republican Awakening?: ”Black Men for McCain” are confused: “This is a strange time to be a Republican. Am I just supposed to be cool with all this? Should I now recalibrate my family values to adjust for this unfortunate mess? Is teen pregnancy now just a sign of “An American Family?” Is the desire to secede from the United States now a sign of patriotism? What the hell is going on here?”
5) Some White Republicans Too!: Okay, they won’t say it in public, but if you have a hot mic lying around, you will find out what many really think about the Palin selection.
6) “There were like 5 Black People in attendance“: We’ll forgive Mizzo for that gross overstatement while asking: “How can America vote for a party that has no diversity (don’t answer that)? How can women identify with a candidate whose running mate could give a damn about women? Isn’t she way too conservative (creationism vs. evolution)? The Washington Post weighed in on the “whitest” Republican convention since these stats have existed.
7) Shhhhh! 300 Arrested Outside Convention: Amy Goodman from “Democracy Now” one of the many journalists arrested that included nearly 300 protesters swept up by police. In 1968, this might have been covered by mainstream media which had some independence. In 2008, you have to find independent internet media for reports on arrests of independent media.
Why the Elite Media should Apologize to Sarah Palin: Politico lists all of the reasons.
9) Daily Show on Karl Rove and Gender Card: Priceless clips from Jon Stewart. If the hypocrisy wasn’t so sad, this would be even funnier.
10) Rage Against the Machine: No - they’re not dead! Zach and the crew are still stirring it up at the RNC convention. Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses…
Sarah Palin, Rudy Guliani, Mitt Romney and Co. may have fired up the Republican base last night — but it seems to have also galvanized some of the previous lukewarm Obama supporters who just didn’t understand the stakes. Since yesterday the Obama campaign has raised 8 million dollars. Thank you Ms. Palin. Feel free to donate once again or just watch the speech one more time to get refocused.

Got something to say?

MODI,
Did you see this Fluke by the RNC, when they thought the camera was off?
Busted Rebs telling the TRUTH

Good lookin’ out, MODI
no problem fellas.
– Peace, I just added the link to the mix…
– Mizzo, I counted four black faces tonight!
I actually thought that MCCain did quite well with his speech tonight, but as Barack nailed it last week — “it’s not that McCain doesn’t care, it’s that he doesn’t get it”
Kudos on posting the Daily Show clip because I checked it out today in my MoveOn email. Too funny but highlighted the hypocrisy just right.
You might want to add Tom Ridge calling John McCain “John Bush” in an interview with Tom Brokaw yesterday
and
Campbell Brown making me laugh when she asked Tucker Bounds of the McCain campaign just to please please oh pretty please, just to name ONE thing Sarah Palin did as commander of her state national guard….just one, any one, just ONE.
I swear, the jokes just write themselves.
You know I wrote about Obama needing to fight back at my spot. I understand why he doesn’t but it is very frustrating. I’m going to be addressing this congressman and his “uppity” comments on Saturday.
I think that MODI’s post illustrates the disconnect between what the media is doing to keep eyeballs glued to their content and what is reality. I don’t think this is going to be close come November but you won’t hear the MSM tell you that. They need to keep this narrative going or they risk sounding like Al Michaels and John Madden talking about the butts of O-linemen when the game is over by the 2nd quarter. Despite protests to the contrary McCain is Geritol Bush at this point. Whatever “maverick” persona he had was sold out when he decided to carry water for the very ones who shit on him on their way to the White House. At the very least, if you must look at this election as a cult of personality please examine the makeup of a man who sold out his family for a shot at the gold ring. So couple that with the fact that people are sick of Bush name me one reason why anyone would vote for him? And don’t tell me Palin has shored up his campaign, because there is nothing there. The less said about her the better. She is a purely political, cynical pick for the PUMA’s and the social conservatives who seemed to forget that Republican party as it stands now, could give a good flying f*ck about them. Some people never learn I guess. Conservative who keep voting for these people appear to be voting against their best interests if they want to keep government small and less intrusive.
I think people are ready for at least the possibilty of something different in Obama. I think that fear of the future under 8 more years of Bush trumps fear of a black president in this case.
Sarah Palin didn’t refused the building of the bridge only after she saw it was advantageous to her politically but she kept the MONEY! all $223 mil…

Big Man, I just edited point #1 to include your recent piece which fits in completely. I was glad to see Obama finally decide to throw some punches of his own today. It was long overdue. He needs to keep repeating that “They think your stupid line” for the rest of the campaign.

While Obama is the most unfit, unqualified, dishonest, dishonorable, deceitful and underhanded candidate ever to run for the Presidency on the Democratic ticket, a snake oil salesman who talks out of both sides of his mouth and will lie to anyone about anything, its also no secret that he wouldn’t even be the candidate had the Democratic Party leadership not corrupted, devalued, and rigged the system in order to produce him.
